Smackdown at Tag Central

Well, one good link deserves another.

The folks over at http://animationguildblog.blogspot.com gave us a little shoutout, and it only took 12 hours for the first slapping to begin.

According to Google Analytics, that link was responsible for 15% of the hits that hit the 'site today.

For the record, I only know this because Dancing With The Stars was on, and I figured it was an excellent time to check for links and hits.

Hey, other authors. Feel free to post at any time.

I hate to admit it, but I'm starting to lose my starry-eyed optimism over the possibilities of discourse through blogs. I thought the people who made outrageous statements were relatively few and far between, but I guess that's because I never read blogs' comment sections that often.

Well, whether or not people behave like adults, I'm glad this blog got some exposure. Each of the big animation sites has a lot to offer, and the more views that are shown, the better.

I too have a tough time reading the union blog or other animated related ones. I don't think it's a tiny fraction of "artists" who have total distain for the writers, but a fairly large batch. Dishearting to say the least, especially when that's also reflected by our union officials.

As an artist that reads the TAG blog regularly, I can say that I believe there just are complainers and whiners in every group. If you scroll through the comments sections throughout the blog, you will find bitter unemployed artists willing to bitch about almost any aspect of the industry. And they post and post and post, and the rest of us move on and read the next blog entry. To the point, I wouldn't give too much legitimacy to the squeaky wheel.

Just so we're clear on this: I'm a "union official" who made his living as an animation writer for twelve years. I don't draw.

No wonder the union is in such shit shape.
This explains why you're so baffled by the situation artists are in right now. You have no idea what it's like. You're just another coddled writer.
